How to Find a Bankruptcy Lawyer
How to Find a Bankruptcy Lawyer
By

on August 12, 2010
Filing for bankruptcy can be one of the most difficult life decisions for many struggling Americans, one that effectively lowers your credit score immensely but at the same time allowing you to receive a fresh financial start. Whether liquidating your assets through
Chapter 7
or entering a repayment plan through
Chapter 13
, bankruptcy lawyers and attorneys can be essential assets to your financial assistance and knowledge.
There are two common types of bankruptcy in the United States; Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. Chapter 7 involves liquidating your assets to help pay off your debts. Items, excluding those lien items such as mortgages, are sold to repay creditors. In Chapter 13, a court appointed repayment plan is prepared for the debtor, in hopes of creating a long-lasting stable financial environment.
The main objective in hiring a bankruptcy attorney is providing debtors with reliable information that will help them decide which form of bankruptcy to take, if any at all. Not only that, but they provide knowledge on the proper route of bankruptcy, as new laws have made filing for bankruptcy
far more difficult
for consumers, as they only want those in dire need of financial rescue to be filing for bankruptcy.
There are several different routes one can take when researching a bankruptcy lawyer. The first would be to simply look up lawyers in the yellow pages, and research them before meeting with them. You can also find great recommendations from family, friends, and other attorneys as well. These people will have real experience and knowledge on attorney’s and their skills, giving you a great leg up in terms of quality choices. The only downside to asking other lawyers is their inability to speak about specific clients, as that would be against privacy regulations.
Finding a bankruptcy lawyer can be one of the most daunting tasks in an individual’s life, as is bankruptcy itself. Compare prices, review your options, and receive opinions of several different lawyers before choosing one that best suits your needs. This will help in giving you that true financial fresh start, without putting you back in that hardship of never-ending debt.
